Evolution
By Shrii Prabhat Rainjan Sarkar
Human beings emerged on this earth about one million
years ago. Perhaps some of you have seen the fossils of human beings
that are nearly half a million years old. Those primitive humans didn't
have the same physiology as the modern people and the human beings of
the future will not have the same physiology as the people of today.
Similarly, on other planets as well, the bodies of beings similar to
humans, who have evolved in accordance with the particular environmental
conditions, will also undergo change in the future. The course that
changes will take depends upon physical makeup and psychic evolution. If
the human brain or its cranium is small in size, it cannot accommodate
much intellect. So, for the expression of greater intellect, there must
be a corresponding increase in the size of the human cranium. In
primitive times, the huge dinosaurs and coctatius etc. had huge bodies
but tiny brains. Some of you have seen the fossils of these animals in
our museum. Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar of Bengal had a comparatively
large head, which was the object of many a joke. Some people used to say
appreciatively, "Without such a large head, how can one possess
such tremendous intellect?" Thus, the more people advance, the more
the body undergoes change. The greater the physical evolution, the more
complex the physical structure becomes. It is necessary change because
subtle thoughts and their expression depend upon a complex physical and
psychic structure.
The mind, which wants to think of so many things,
requires a developed brain and a developed cranium to protect the brain.
Not only that, one also requires an equally developed nervous system to
transmit impulses from the brain to different parts of the body.
Moreover, nerve cells and nerve fibres conceive of new ideas. The
presence of glands implies the presence of various chemical substances
in the body. It means that the human structure must become progressively
more complicated. Of all the microcosmic bodies on this planet, the
human body is the most complex, for it has to act as the vehicle for the
human mind. Nothing in this world is stationary and nothing will remain
stationary. This applies not only to our own planet, but to other
celestial bodies as well. Everything moves in its own particular orbit.
"Caraeveti, caraeveti," or "March ahead, march
ahead," is the only mantra on the path of movement. No one has come
to stay permanently in this world.
There are people who preach certain
dogmas. They claim that the words spoken three, four, or five thousand
years ago by their holy prophets are infallible for they are the direct
words of God. They tolerate no contradiction. These preachers of dogma
are trying to impose their irrational and outdated doctrines on
enlightened people and thereby thwart the intellectual progress of
humanity. However, their sinister attempts are bound to be frustrated.
Perhaps dogma will succeed in landing some blows on the human mind, but
ultimately these attempts will boomerang on them with redoubled energy
and vigour is causing these dogmas to not only bend but to break into
pieces. Humanity has been advancing and will keep advancing in the
future. Gradually, the glandular structure will undergo further
development, the cranium will undergo changes, and so on. Through this
natural process the human species will eventually become extinct on this
planet and on others as well.
Whoever comes must also go. This is the inexorable law.
The extinction of human beings from this planet should by no means leave
anyone frustrated. The victorious humans who came to this planet long
will move to other planets, to a greater glory, a greater victory, a far
greater enlightenment. The lower glands of the human body with their
controlling points are controlled by the higher glands and their
respective controlling points. For example, if the pituitary gland is
well developed, the lower glands will be equally well developed and well
regulated. Thus, the pineal gland is the primary controller of all the
other glands. The human body possesses fifty main glands, each having
its own impact on the psychic sphere. Every gland works both internally
and externally as well as in ten directions. Fifty times two times ten
equals one thousand. That is why the pineal gland, being the controller
of one thousand vrttis (propensities) is called Sahasra'ra cakra. The
controlling point of the human sentimentality is the unit consciousness
(a'nupurus'a) and all unit consciousnesses in this universe are
controlled by the Supreme Consciousness from this pineal gland. The
human body is like a machine composed of hands, feet, etc., while the
glands are subtle psychic machines. All these are controlled by the
pineal gland, and the Supreme Consciousness is the Supreme Controller of
all.
